OA Remodeling > Blog > How to Fix a Clogged Sink
What is most interesting about a clogged sink is that this type of home repair could be a menial task or turn into a real pain in the neck and will determine whether or not you will need to call in a professional to do the job. Having the right tools to fix a clogged sink is essential to this task when at-home remedies are not working.
It is important to know how you can keep your pipes free of the debris that could end up having you to fix a clogged sink. Large amounts of food, hair, and trash are just some of the things that can clog your sink fast and this type of build up in your sink could be prevented with a drain stop, one which only allow water to pass through. More often than not, people will believe that a garbage disposal is another trash can.
Baking soda and any white distilled vinegar are both great at fixing the minor clogged sink. This is something that I like to do around the house when I am cleaning and you could also do at least twice per month, depending on how dirty your sinks get. You will want to start by pouring 2 cups of baking soda down the clogged sink then add in as much vinegar as the baking soda will react.
Once you pour the vinegar down the drain, you will immediately see the baking soda and vinegar react together and fizzle with bubbles. Continue pouring vinegar down the sink into the pipes until the fizzing stops. Rinse the sink with hot water and allow to sit and dry overnight. This way to fix a clogged sink has to be one of mine and my kids favorite because we get to have fun in a safe environment while seeing a volcano happening in our sink.
A plain plunger is an easy and fast way to unclog a sink with standing water. Items around the house such as these come in handy but just be sure that you leave this separate from any other plunger you have in the house.
Start out by placing the plunger over the drain in your sink and then using your arms, pushing the plunger in the forward and backwards motion until the sink will drain.
